The first artificial surfing reef in the Northern Hemisphere sits a few hundred yards off shore and to the left of Boscombe pier, right outside our school!. The reef was designed to improve the surfing conditions we get on Boscombe beach, by amplifying the waves and giving them a better shape for surfing.

 

The reef is NOT a wave machine and does not generate waves itself, it is designed to simply improve the quality of waves that we do get.

 

We do not take lessons out to the reef as it simply is not practical or safe to take beginners that far off shore, and as you can see by the pictures it is not a wave designed for the inexperienced surfer!

 

We have great waves for learning to surf right on Boscombe beach in a safe managable environment, and who knows after a few lessons you may be ready to tackle the reef!
